Instructors
Teacher
Teaching curriculum provided for all specific
Arc LIFE classes assigned and/or provide supervision during all
assigned leisure/social skills activities offered through Arc
LIFE. Responsible for the complete classroom environment at a
particular location or activity. Also responsible for providing
leadership, a positive working environment and providing
constructive feedback to both aides and volunteers who may be
assisting in the classroom or activity setting.
Completes all
assessments and documentation in the area of skill acquisition
and community inclusion as required by the program.
Participates as a key team member by attending meetings and
in-services, attending training functions (as designated) and by
being responsible for the cleanliness, appropriateness and
functionality of the daily operations of the site. Also
responsible for providing timely communication to supervisor
(Program Manager) as warranted. Responsible for outcomes of
students and arriving 30 minutes prior to class through student
pickup. Responsible for maintaining appropriate dress and
proper hygiene and getting substitute for class. Other duties
as assigned, including those as specified in the contract.
Teacher’s aide
Responsible for assisting lead teacher and consumers in
attaining maximum level of functioning through on-going support,
monitoring and direct skills training. Provide opportunities of
community access and inclusion during leisure activities.
Support individuals in the setting and attainment of personal
life goals. Assist individuals in activities of daily living,
such as self- help, personal hygiene and work/leisure skills.
Participate as a key team member by attending meetings and
in-services, attending training functions (as designated) and by
assisting in the daily operations of the site. Responsible for
providing feedback to the immediate staff (teacher) and
completing tasks as assigned by the teacher. Also responsible
for reaching class outcomes and goals. Other duties as
assigned, including those as specified in the contract.

Communications/PR
Intern (unpaid)
Looking
for real-world experience? This internship is not a gopher position. You
will have much to add to your portfolio after this position. You
will work with communication plans, media, funding, websites,
event planning, desk-top publishing, writing, editing and more.

Legislative Advocacy Intern (unpaid)
Help change the lives of Texans with mental retardation and
their families. Tens of thousands of Texans are on waiting lists
for 12+ years for services that are readily available in most
other states. Help with legislative research, communications and
more. Do you have great communications skills, both written and
oral and enjoy research? Political science, sociology

Guardianship Intern (unpaid)
Interested
in hands-on experience working with people with mental
retardation? Looking for training working in the court
system? Then this internship might be a great fit for
you.

with referrals from the Dallas County Probate Courts, Adult
Protective Services (APS), and the Department of Aging and Disability
Services (DADS)

with Arc staff, volunteer advocates, court
investigators, APS and DADS guardianship specialists
and clients
